Kaleem Janjua is an Asian actor well known for his roles within TV, film, radio and stage. Born in Pakistan in 1944, he moved to Rochdale shortly before his twenty-first birthday and was employed as a labourer at Turner Brothers. Kaleem then moved to Manchester in the mid-1960s, where he got a job as a bus conductor.Having gained an LLAM Acting Diploma at Manchester University, Kaleem left the city in 1982 to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. His big break came in ITV's The Jewel in the Crown the following year.He has played two roles on Coronation Street: Firstly in June 1989 as shopkeeper Mr Gupta, before making sporadic appearances during 2001 as Suresh Parekh.Other TV and film credits include roles in Juliet Bravo, Crown Court, Cardiac Arrest, East Is East, Heartburn Hotel, The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, Body of Lies, Doctors and Little Crackers, while on radio his is known for the recurring role of Mani Ray on Silver Street for the BBC's Asian Network.Janjua appeared in two episodes of Dinnerladies (1998).
