Sean was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Dave Freeland, a musician, and Melinda Freeland, a school teacher. Sean also has a younger brother named Abraham. After graduating high school Sean attended Florida State University before moving to Atlanta, Georgia after graduating. Sean spent several years owning his own businesses before concentrating on producing and acting full time. Sean has worked on such projects as Nashville, Constantine, The Game and done work for companies such as Turner Classic Movies and Chick-Fil-A. Sean is now Co-Owner and Co-Founder of Meta Studios along with Paul Jenkins.
