Schuyler Fox is probably the founder of the original Fox & Sons bookstore, although it is possible that it goes back even earlier. By the time You've Got Mail opens, the store has grown into a chain. Schuyler is perhaps around 80, and his memory has become a bit clouded. Although he keeps an active interest in the business, it is now his son Nelson who runs things. (When the three generations of Foxes are first shown together, they are in Nelson's office, so he's presumably the CEO. Schuyler may retain a title like Chairman Emeritus.) He particularly enjoys hearing of other bookstores closing, apparently regarding competition as something akin to a wild west gunfight.Years ago, Schuyler carried on a correspondence, and might have had a date, with fellow bookstore owner Cecilia Kelly, the late mother of Kathleen. He found her enchanting, but too young for him. Long after that, he married a woman considerably younger than himself, Yvette Fox, with whom he has a daughter Annabel, about ten years old. He dotes on her, and gets her all the books she wants. The names Schuyler, Nelson, and Yvette occur in the credits, not the film itself. Yvette's relationship to Schuyler and Annabel isn't explicitly stated, but the most logical surmise is given above. Show less «
