Sylvia Broome is an interpreter at the United Nations. She holds dual citizenship in two nations: the United States and the Republic of Matobo, and is fluent in Ku a tribal dialect used in her native homeland of Matobo. One night Sylvia overhears a plan to assassinate Matoban President Edmond Zuwanie. At first Sylvia dismisses it, but alerts authorities when she discovers that Zuwanie will be visiting the United Nations.Background.Sylvia grew up in Matobo. She had one brother and one sister. When she was younger, her parents and sister were killed when their landrover hit a mine placed by Zuwanie's soldiers to counter dissidents. Enraged by the inicident, Sylvia and her brother Simon joined a dissdent group led by Ajene Xola which sought to overthrow Zuwanie. For a time Sylvia became Xola's lover until Sylvia's skin color broke them up. Some time later Syliva made her way to New York City to work for the United Nations. At the United Nations. As an interpreter, Sylvia sought to make sure that her translations contained no errors because she believed that wars have been fought over improper translations. Sylvia believed that diplomacy could solve more than violence could. However that belief was shaken she was almost assassinated by Zuwanie's henchman Jean Gamba. It was then that she realized that the only way to deal with someone like Zuwanie was to kill them. Hiding out in the United Nations, she ambushed Zuwanie and attempted to kill him using the gun that Zuwanie always carried with him. Sylvia was convinced by Secret Service Agent Tobin Keller not to kill Zuwanie by telling her that they found proof that the assassination attempt on Zuwanie was staged and that Zuwanie will face charges of genocide in the International Criminal Court. Syliva is not charged with anything, but is deported back to Matobo. Show less «
