American Horror Story - Season 1 Episode 06 : Piggy Piggy
The story follows the Harmon family: psychiatrist Ben, his wife Vivien, and their teenage daughter Violet, who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair. The Harmons discover that several violent murders were committed in their new home, which locals have nicknamed 'The Murder House', and a series of increasingly disturbing events indicate they may be sharing their home with the restless and violent spirits of those killed.
There were some genuine, fun chills with that little side story, which introduced us to an in-show "legend" called Piggy Man; a psycho killer who comes about via typical urban legend transport, the bathroom mirror.
American Horror Story isn't as tense or weird as it usually is this episode, but there's a weird emotional resonance to the show and its characters that wasn't evident from the show's beginning.
Our awful God-like knowledge of the horror that looms makes witnessing it actually happen all the more disturbing. We don't want to watch. Except we want to watch, too.
All in all, this was a quirky episode that tied off a few points... But it didn't start too many new questions. I'm okay with that, as long as the series picks up and takes it to a new level.
The whole thing turned into Twilight with ghosts, and I remembered I was watching a show where everybody's primary motivation is what will get Ryan Murphy to stand up from his chair and write something in big letters on a dry-erase board.
